Collection Description

Historical Note

Anna Maria Green (Cook) (1844-1936) was the daughter of Thomas Fitzgerald Green (1804-1879) and Adeline Elizabeth Anne Crowder Green (d. 1860). Anna married Samuel Austin Cook (d. 1911) in 1869. Their children included Adie Green Cook (b. 1871), Thomas Fitzgerald Cook (b. 1872), Ansel Brewster Cook (b. 1877), and Callie Irvin Cook (1882-1958).

Scope and Content

The collection consists of the papers of Anna Maria Green Cook and the Green and Cook families from 1845-1934. The papers include bills and receipts of Samuel Austin Cook, a diary of Anna Maria, but mostly correspondence. The diary (1861-1867) entries discuss social life in Georgia during and after the Civil War, politics, the progress of the war, and Union troops in and around Milledgeville (Ga.).

The correspondence consists of letters between Anna Maria and Samuel Austin Cook both before and after their marriage; letters to Anna Maria from her father Thomas F. Green, her children Callie Cook and Ansel Cook, and from her nephew Gerald Cook. The correspondence discusses news of family or friends and social activities.

Organization and Arrangement

Arranged by record type.
