Historical Note
Lillian Smith (1897-1966), author, lecturer, and human rights advocate, was born in Jasper County, Florida, and resided in Rabun County, Georgia. Her best known fiction piece was the controversial 1944 novel Strange Fruit.

Scope and Content
The collection consists mainly of photographs of children, camp counselors, individuals, and scenery at Laurel Falls Camp for Girls, from approximately 1925-1930. Publications include issues of The Laurel Leaf, the camp newsletter, and two summer camp pamphlets. Additional materials include a composition book, and correspondence from Lillian Smith to Katherine Ulmer regarding the play Strange Fruit.
