Noted for their contributions to the intellectual life of nineteenth-century Georgia, the LeContes originally prospered as rice and cotton planters in Liberty County and later earned recognition for their scientific work. LeConte Family - New Georgia Encyclopedia.
The collection consists of a large number of manuscripts, letters, typescripts, pictures, maps, genealogical charts and 3x5 cards containing biographical and genealogical material concerning the LeConte and allied families of Georgia. The material was compiled by the late Mr. James Augustus LeConte of Atlanta, Georgia.
Organized into five series: (1) Correspondence, (2) Family, (3) Counties, (4) Subject and (5) LeConte Family historical materials.
