Crawford Williamson Long (1815-1878) was a physician and the first to use ether as an anesthetic. He was born in Madison County, Georgia and married Caroline Swain in 1842. Their children were Edward Crawford, Arthur B., Frances (Taylor), Florence (Bartow), Eugenia, and Emma M.

Collection includes twenty letters from the Long and Swain families discussing family affairs and everyday life. Also included are documents tracking the genealogical history of these familes, as well as a newspaper clipping, photograph, bank certificate, proof of burial plot purchase, radio scripts, loose envelopes and Winterville, Georgia hand signs.
