James Monroe Smith (1839-1915) was an Oglethorpe County, Georgia millionaire farmer and merchant whose plantation, Smithonia, comprised about 20,000 acres. He never married and after his death many people laid claim to his estate.
This collection contains a photograph of the Smithonia Sawmill taken in the late 1800s, as well as a 1975 survey of the estate by J. L. Todd Auction Co.
