The Theatre Royal, Covent Garden was built by John Rich in 1732 and was one of only two theaters permitted to peform drama in London at the time.
This collection contains a playbill advertising "Love In A Village" and "The Author" for December 11, 1790 by Theatre Royal, Covent Garden in London. The playbill notes that the performances were given "by desire of the Cherokee Chiefs" referring to a delegation of several Cherokee and Creek men led by William Augustus Bowles who traveled to England to seek military support for a proposed separate Native American state, the Nation of Muskogee, on land in Florida belonging to Spain and the United States.
