James Henry Massey, Sr. (1922-1995) was born in Greenville, South Carolina. He graduated from the University of Georgia with bachelor's and master's degrees in Poultry Science. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp in World War II, receiving a Battle Star for the Battle of Okinawa, and the Korean War, then retired in 1975 at the rank of Colonel after 33 years of service. Mr. Massey also worked for the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service for 33 years, serving as Head of the Extension Poultry Science Department, District Agent Chairman, and District Agent of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
This collection contains color transparencies, filmstrip, prints, and negatives related to James H. Massey Sr. The older photographs relate to Massey's service as a Marine during World War II, including the Allied occupation of Japan following the end of the war. In addition, there are family photographs including photographs of trips to Washington, D.C. and Hawaii.
