James Hollister Hobgood was born in Calhoun, Georgia in 1914. He graduated from the Henry W. Grady School of Journalism at the University Georgia in 1937 and, in 1958, became the editor and publisher of the "Gordon County News", which merged with the "Calhoun Times" in 1960. He was elected President of the Georgia Press Association in 1963.
This collection contains correspondence, photographs, and awards related to James Hobgood's career as a journalist. Also included are a few items belonging to his wife Mary Louise Nevin Hobgood including an award and a Georgia Senate resolution in memory of her father Henry W. Nevin.
