George Walton was one of three Georgians to sign the Declaration of Independence. He served in numerous capacities for the state of Georgia after the American Revolution.

This collection contains a letter written by George Walton to his son George Walton, Jr. on July 31, 1801 from his home at Meadow-Garden in Augusta, Georgia. It contains a reference to his role as part of a committee in the selection of land and in contracting builders for the future University of Georgia to be located in Jackson County.
