Adolph Elliott Nonas was born on January 21, 1915 in Brooklyn, New York. A 1937 graduate of the University of Georgia (A.B.J) he was drafted in 1941 and spent five years in the armed services, rising from Infantry machine gun private to Air Force captain.
Nonas worked in New York advertising after the war, creating some of the first advertising for television (for the Dumont network) and going on to start his own advertising agency there in the late 1940s. In the late 1950s Nonas went to the DeGarmo agency, where he was an executive vice president, creative director and managing director, and nurtured many of the next generation's leading advertisers. In the late 1960s Nonas moved to Martin Landy Arlow advertising as senior vice president. While there he bought into a men's hair piece company that he eventually took over and named The Penthouse for Men. There he wrote his own ads and newsletters, and continued running the company until circa 2003 when he retired at the age of 87. He wrote and self-published a book of poems, Don't Count Me Out in 2005 and passed away later that year.
The collection consists of copies of print advertisements for companies like The Penthouse for Men, the Irish Tourist Board, The Grolier Society, Rolex, Americana Corporation, and Fieldcrest. Also included are editorials, poems, and lyrics written by Nonas.
