Pope Allen Haley (1908-1985) was born in Elberton, Georgia to Sarah and George Haley. After graduation from the University of Georgia with a BA in journalism, he began his career as a reporter in Washington, DC. During his career he served in several positions, including AP Naval War Correspondent (1943-1946); news editor for Pathfinder magazine (1946-1950); and most notably as associate editor and music critic and columnist for the Florida Times-Union (1962-1976).
The collection consists of correspondence, printed material, writings, photographs and a typewriter. The correspondence is mainly from readers of his columns and editorials and its often from Florida Congressmen. The bulk of the collection is printed material which relates to his work at Florida Times-Union in Jackson, Florida. There are scrapbooks filled with clippings of his editorials. There are also clippings of his music reviews (preservation copies have been made of these). Issues of Pathfinder, University Items, and The States' Righter are included.
