The 1st Georgia Volunteers, Confederate Army consisted of the Irish Jaspers Companies A and B (Formed in May 1861). The Volunteers served at Fort Pulaski on the Georgia coast during the Civil War. The Irish Volunteers were added as Company E in September 1861.
Receipt dated April 16, 1861 for ordnance and ordnance stores from Captain W. G. Gill, Ordnance officer at the Savannah, GA arsenal. Ordnance includes 100 muskets and is signed by James B. Read, Captain of the 1st Georgia Irish Volunteers.
