Historical Note
John Lawrence Angel was a Harvard graduate student who was part of Dr. Arthur Randolph Kelly's (1900-1979) WPA Archaeological Excavation near Macon, Georgia. Lawrence earned his bachelor's and doctoral degrees from Harvard University and taught at the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Minnesota and Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.
Scope and Content
The collection consists of a Syllabus of Field Training Course in Archaeological Methods, photographs, and field notes and diagrams of John Lawrence Angel documenting archeological excavations done at the Ocmulgee mound sites, near Macon, Georgia, under the Works Progress Administration (WPA) program during 1936.
