John Milton served as Georgia's first Secetary of State from 1779-1799. He was elected three times and is credited with saving the state's official records when under British occupation. He is also noted for receiving electoral votes from Georgia for becoming America's first president.
Edward Telfair (1735-1807) served three terms as Georgia's governor in the late 1700s. He was the first governor to serve under the Georgia Constitution of 1789. For further information, see the article Edward Telfair at New Georgia Encylcopedia.
The collection consists of one letter: dated Secretary's Office, October 21, 1791, to Governor Edward Telfair concerning a manuscript book belonging to Chatham County's office of probate which had been removed from the state in the late war.
