The collection consists of letters written by Edward Padelford of Savannah, Georgia to Ira Peck of Marion, Twiggs County, Georgia, dated December 1841-December 1842. Two letters are written on the inside pages of the newspaper titled Savannah Shipping and Commercial List, and the remaining letters are written on inside pages of Savannah Republican Prices Current. Correspondence pertains to business matter, including the current market of cotton, rice, molasses, and other commodities; shipping times and schedules; and accounts due or paid. The newspapers themselves list Savannah market conditions for various commodities (cotton, rice, etc.), exchange and freight rates, list of vessels in ports, and vessel departures and arrivals.
