Robert R. Harden (1792-1889) married Mary Antoinette Gauvani on August 1, 1819.
Dr. William Preston Harden, Sr., of Watkinsville, Georgia was the great-great grandfather of attorney Charles W. Harden. William Preston Harden, Sr. served as commander of the Empire State Hospital Train and was assigned to the Army of Tennessee during the Civil War.
The collection consists of a monogrammed amputation kit belonging to Dr. William Preston Harden, Sr.; procedures for treating Confederate casualties issued by the Surgeon General of the Confederate States of America; procedures for treating Confederate casualties issued by the Surgeon General of the State of North Carolina; a daybook for the Empire State Hospital Train containing transcripts of outgoing and incoming telegraph messages written by a Confederate aide-de-camp, including requests for medicines and food from the Confederate government in Richmond and directives from Richmond to Dr. Harden concerning his movements; tax list from 1857 for John Pruett, brother of Sam Pruett; unplated obstetric forceps and two extracting forceps belonging to Robert Raymond Harden; and one stethoscope belonging to William Preston Harden, Sr.
