Correspondence are personal in nature, and the letter dated Franklin Parish, September 15, 1986, mainly regards being locked up. The collection also consists of three Blood issue: A drama in two acts typescripts, and photocopies of reviews of Body. One review is inscribed by Crews: "Mell: if not for you, we both know this book might never have been written ... Not too shabby for an old drunk written off as finished, eh?"
