George Rockingham Gilmer (1790-1859) was a U.S. Representative and Georgia Governor (1829-1831 and 1837-1839).

The collection consists of a journal written by George Rockingham Gilmer detailing a trip he took to Virginia in 1858. The journal describes travels, friends, relatives, and activities during the trip. Also included are two letters containing biographical information of Gilmer, and a land grant for 202 ½ acres to Hardy Deloach in Carroll County, Georgia, surveyed January 18, 1827.
