Collection Description

Historical Note

"Athos Menaboni (1895–1990) was an Italian-born artist who arrived in Georgia in the late 1920s. His early career focused primarily on corporate projects, including the creation of murals for clients in Atlanta, before he turned to painting birds from life, usually in pairs and in their natural habitats. Today Menaboni is best known for his numerous paintings of more than 150 different species of birds native to the Atlanta region."

Scope and Content

The collection consists of personal papers of Sara and Athos Menaboni. Included are correspondence, journals (both financial and Sara's personal), photographs and photograph albums, home movies, exhibition programs, promotional fliers, Menaboni azalea prints and copies of other prints, books, calling cards, and the memorial service program for Athos Menaboni. Correspondents include "Tommy" Arnold, Congressman James C. Davis, and Wayne Short (on Audubon Society letterhead).
