Francis Bickett, a Union soldier, fought in the 47th Ohio Infantry during the Civil War.
The collection consists of correspondence written by Francis Bickett to his wife Isabella, March 1861-New Year 1865. Correspondences are dated St. Martin and Camp Dennison, Ohio; Virginia, Vicksburg and Camp Sherman, Mississippi; Larkinsville, Alabama; Cleveland, Tennessee; and East Point, Vining's Station, and Savannah, Georgia. Bickett describes marches, battles, rumors, positions, campaigns, and "a blockade runner that came into port." Excerpt from a letter dated February 8, 1864: "I will not build battles in the air."
