William Cole Nye Swift (1815-1892) and Obed Nye Swift (1804-1863), partners in Swift Brothers, involved in lumber trade and transport of lumber for shipbuilding in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
The collection consists of two letters from William C. N. Swift at Camp Desert Plantation, Riceboro, Liberty County, Georgia to his parents in New Bedford (Mass.) in 1838 and three letters to Swift in Charleston (S.C.) from his brother O. N. Swift in 1839. The letters discuss family news and describe various aspects and problems of hauling and shipping lumber. The collection also includes an account (1848) for William C. N. Swift with Baring Brothers Company (London).
