George Walton was one of three Georgians to sign the Declaration of Independence. He served in numerous capacities for the state of Georgia after the American Revolution. Walton County is named for him. Forfurther information, see the article George Walton in the New Georgia Encyclopedia.
The collection consists of one document of agreement dated December 2, 1774 between John Morel, Robert Watts, and Edward Telfair concerning the cutting and delivery of a live oak intended for building a ship. The agreement is signed by George Walton, who, in 1774, was engaged in a prosperous law practice in Savannah, Georgia.
