Jabez Young Jackson, the son of James Jackson [1757-1806] and uncle of James Jackson [1819-1887], a Representative from Georgia; born in Savannah, Ga., in July 1790; resided at Clarkesville; elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-fourth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of James M. Wayne; reelected as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress and served (October 5, 1835-March 3, 1839); died in Clarkesville, Habersham County, Ga.; death date unknown. Scope and Content

The collection consists of one letter dated Philadelphia, January 17, 1837, to Messrs. Blair and Rives, signed "Jabez Jackson of Georgia." Jackson sent the letter from a Philadelphian hotel where he was resting due to an illness that "keeps me from my seat in the house." In the letter he requests Blair and Rives to send the "Daily Globe" to the hotel landlord, Mr. John Sturdivant.
