The Central of Georgia Railway was one of the most significant railroads in the American South and a vital part of Georgia's transportation infrastructure for more than one hundred years. From its start the Central was a classic expression of the developmental American railroad, serving as a leader in the region's economic growth." For more information, see the article Central of Georgia Railway in the New Georgia Encyclopedia.
The Georgia and Florida Railway Company was organized 1906. Its name changed in 1926 to Georgia and Florida Railroad.
Southern Railway existed as a company since 1894; on June 1, 1982 it combined with Norfolk and Western Railway under the banner of Norfolk Southern Corporation.
The collection consists of timetables and brochures that reflect the development of the railroad centered in or servicing Georgia. Many of the brochures are undated but appear to be from the early 1920s.
