Margaret Snow "Marel" Brown (1899-) was a writer of inspirational poetry, short stories, juvenile stories and several magazine articles. She was born in Carroll County, Georgia and she used "Marel Brown" as her pen name. She married her husband, Alexander Booth Brown in 1919. Among the books she has written are Lily May and Dan, 1946; The Greshams of Greenway, 1950 and a book of three juvenile stories called The Cherry Children published in 1957, as well as four books containing poetry and essays, most noted are Fence Corners, 1952, and The Shape of a Song, 1968, which contained writings from other writers as well. Ms. Brown received numerous awards for her writings including The Dixie Council's Poet of the Year Award, The Atlanta Writers' Club Writer of the Year Award and many more.
This collection contains many of Marel Brown's manuscripts for poetry, fiction and magazine articles. Along with these published works is a considerable amount of correspondence to publishers. The collection also contains correspondence that Brown received in connection with the National League of American Pen Women (NLAPW), a group with which she was extremely involved, as well as personal correspondnce with family and friends.
