Ephraim F. Gottlieb was a Chicago insurance agent and music lover.

Sergey Prokofiev (1891-1953) was a Russian composer.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of correspondences (photocopies and originals) from Serge Prokofieff to Ephraim F. Gottlieb, dated 1920-1940. Prokofieff discusses his compositions, concert tours in the United States and Europe, rehearsals of operas (particularly LOVE FOR THREE ORANGES), ballets, people he meets, other musicians, and his opinion of American music critics. The collection also contains photographs of Prokofieff and his family, and a caricature of Prokofieff.
