Collection Description
Historical Note
The Board of Commissioners for Roads, Public Property and Finance for Washington County, Georgia was established by an Act of the Georgia General Assembly on December 15, 1897.
Scope and Content
The collection consists of a record book containing minutes and financial accounts of the Washington County (Ga.) Board of Commissioners for Roads, Public Property and Finance from January, 1898 - October, 1904. The minutes describe the meetings of the board and pertain to activities of the Home for the Poor, the jail, and other public institutions; aid to indigent confederate veterans; the building of public roads or utilities; and appointment of board members. The financial accounts are included with the minutes and contain accounts audited, approved, paid and the names of the payees; poll taxes paid, general taxes paid; and the names of any loan defaulters.
