Elijah Alexander Brown was the son of Governor Joseph E. Brown and Elizabeth Grisham Brown. Elijah was born in Canton, Georgia on September 4, 1857, and was a graduate of the University of Georgia.

The collection consists of three letters written by Elijah A. Brown to his parents in 1875. Correspondence discusses activities and teachers at the University of Georgia, and churches and ministers in Athens. A fourth letter, undated, addressed to Elizabeth Brown from Henry Holcombe Tucker discusses Tucker's election as chancellor of the University of Georgia.
