Abstract: The collection consists of papers of Grace Hall from ca. 1912-1944. The collection contains primarily manuscripts of Hall's novel, LETTERS FROM GIGI, essays, and some poems. Also includes some material relating to Edwin Howland Blashfield and family photographs. |
Grace Hall (187?-1947), American poet and novelist, born in Boston, Massachusetts. Married Edwin Howland Blashfield (1848-1936) in 1928.
Ms. Hall was a poet and novelist who was born in Boston to Edna Amile Brown, a concert singer, and David Culver Hall, a concert tour conductor. Ms. Hall lived in London, Florence and New York City with her parents and sisters, Gertrude-also a writer-and Marguerite, an opera singer.
Ms. Hall married the portrait and mural artist Edwin Howland Blashfield in 1928. She published her only novel Letters from Gigi in 1909 and also published several poems and essays in magazines. After the death of her husband, Ms. Hall lived with her sister Gertrude in New York City. She died in 1947.
This collection contains the writings, photos and biographical material of Grace Marie Hall Blashfield.
This collection contains primarily the manuscripts of Ms. Hall's essays and novel. Also included are several photos of Ms. Hall, her sisters and Edwin Blashfield. Letters of Mr. Blashfield and some of his early sketches are also part of the collection.
