Collection Description

Historical Note

George Wagner (1841-1906) was a Union Army Captain with Company I of the 110th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment, later a Lt. with the Invalid Corps, and then an Adjutant at Camp Morgan, Indiana, a Confederate prison (1863-1865). While stationed in Georgia from 1866-1868, Wagner served as a Lt. in the Veteran's Reserve Corps with the Freedman's Bureau.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of United States currency, Confederate currency, the Appointment of George Wagner as Captain of Company I, 110th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment, and an indenture of apprenticeship for George Wagner to learn the art of gold beating. The collection also includes an old stove catalog used as a scrapbook, created by Susan Kinner Courtright, and five photographs. Three photographs depict warships of the Spanish-American War period; one photograph portrays five engines wrecked in Sussex County, N.Y. during the Blizzard of 1888; and a final photograph is a group shot of H.A.A. Football players in 1895.
