Ira R. Foster (1811-1885) was a Civil War Quartermaster General of Georgia, lawyer, and saw mill owner, born in Spartanburg District, South Carolina.
The collection consists of correspondence of Ira R. Foster from 1844-1873. Correspondence deals with his duties as Quartermaster-General of Georgia during the Civil War, the Georgia lumber industry (Terrell County, Ga.) and personal and family matters. Correspondents include C.R. Armstrong, Joseph E. Bram, Howell Cobb, D.H. Mason, William H. Stiles, and The Southerner and Commercial Advertisers.
