Born on August 24, 1871, Steadman Vincent Sanford was the child of Elizabeth Steadman and Charles Vincent Sanford. At age 24, in 1895, he married Grace McClatchey. The couple would have four children: Shelton Palmer, Grace Devereaux, Charles Steadman, and Homer Reynolds. Grace would die at age 9 in 1907, while the others survived into adulthood.
