William Harris Crawford (1772-1834), two-time U.S. presidential nominee (1816 and 1824), U.S. senator (November 7, 1807 to March 23, 1813), cabinet member under two presidents (Secretary of War beginning in August 1815; transferred to the Treasury in October 1816, and served under Presidents Madison and James Monroe until 1825), foreign diplomat (Minister to France 1813-1815), and judge of the northern circuit court (1827-1834).

The collection consists of two handwritten letters: dated Treasury Department, December 26, 1816, signed "William H. Crawford;" dated Treasury Department, March [22] 1818, signed "William H. Crawford," regarding changes in the Treasury laws and their impact on state banks and the Bank of the United States.
