| Abstract: The collection consists of papers, pictures and other items concerned with the Everett, Foy, Burkes, Parker, Martin and Cadle families of Effingham, Screven, Bulloch and Emanuel counties of Georgia. There are a good many pictures. Some of the pictures were done by Mr. Wilson of Savannah, Georgia. An interesting part of this collection is the number of naval letters and papers of William Eden Cadle during the second World War. Mr. Cadle was sworn in at Macon, Georgia, on 20 April 1942 and trained at Norfold, Virginia. Mr. Cadle left Guam in September of 1945 and was discharged 24 December 1945 at Jacksonville, Florida. | |
Collection Description
Historical Note
Mr. William Eden Cadle, 82, died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Augusta. Mr. Cadle, a native of Swainsboro, owned Cadle's Feed and Seed from 1946 to 1957 and owned Cadle's Amoco Service Station from 1959 to 1968. He had been a bookkeeper for Flander's Tire Co., and he was a Swainsboro volunteer fireman. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, the Grand Lodge of Georgia Free and Accepted Masons, Swainsboro Lodge 244, the Shriners and the Emanuel County Sportsmen's Club. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a life member of the Lanier-Moore chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
