Lovick Pierce was a Methodist minister and the father of the Georgia Methodist Bishop George Foster Pierce.
The collection consists of three letters from Lovick Pierce to his granddaughter Mrs. Ann Pierce Howard of Hamilton, Harris County, Georgia. Dated April 7, 1875, October 22, 1877, and November 4, 1879, the first letter is datelined "Sunshine", the Pierce homeplace, while the other two are headed Sparta. Poignant and filled with grandfatherly advice, the letter of 4 November 1879 is noted as "the last before his death."Also included is a copy of the petition of Robert D. Walker.
