The collection consists of two letters: dated Howitzer Battery, Leesburg, January 1, 1861, signed "John Esten Cooke," regarding orders, "the affair in Richmond," and Cooke's worries; dated Camp near Leesburg, September 8, 1861, signed "John Esten Cooke," regarding Cooke's friends, and his personal relationship with Miss Nettie.
