Augusta Jane Evans Wilson (1835-1909) was a noted author who became closely associated with the Confederate cause and an advocate of the traditional Southern way of life.

The collection consists of a handwritten letter that was removed from a special edition of St. Elmo A novel, by Augusta J. Evans for preservation purposes. The letter is dated Mobile, October 23, 1866, "My dear kind friend," signed "A. J. Evans," and regards Evans' views toward the recently concluded Civil War and her own literary efforts.
