Historical Note

J. N. (Jerome Nelson) Wilson was born in New York in 1827. Nelson moved to Savannah, Georgia in 1865, just weeks after the close of the American Civil War. He worked as a photographer with a studio at the corner of Whitaker and Broughton streets. During the 1870s he opened studios at 21 Bull Street and 177 Congress Street and by 1879 he retained only the Bull Street studio. Wilson is known for his stereoscopic views of Savannah's Bonaventure Cemetery, wharves, and other late 19th century scenes. He died at the age of 71 on 13 February 1897.
