Historical Note
Before coming to the University of Georgia, Conrad Fink worked for the Associated Press where he rose from reporter to vice president and secretary of the Associated Press. He retired from professional journalism in 1977 and began teaching at UGA in 1983. Fink wrote 11 journalism textbooks on subjects ranging from editorials and sports writing to newspaper management. He held the William S. Morris Professor of Newspaper Strategy and Management chair at the school and was a UGA Senior Foundation Fellow. Fink taught newspaper management and strategy, contemporary American newspapers, public affairs reporting, media ethics and editorial writing.
Scope and Content
This collection consists of materials that Conrad Fink either created or collected during his lifetime of news reporting and teaching journalism at UGA. Included are numerous articles that he summited to the Associated Press (AP) while covering Asia during the mid-1960s along with general interest stories about the U.S. written for the AP during the 1980s to 2000s. There is information about various newspapers around the country, their daily workings and the owners of these papers. There are also documents (1977-2011) related to the classes that Fink taught and the speeches that he presented along with galleys, reviews and other materials connected to books that he authored. In addition, the collection holds a large amount of both his professional and personal correspondence dating from the 1980s to 2011.
