Biographical Note

Glenn Wilson (Jack) Ellard was born on October 27, 1912, in Cornelia, Habersham County, Georgia, to William and Ida Ellard. He was a 1929 graduate of Cornelia High School, attended Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia (1931-1933), and received his law degree from the University of Georgia (1935). He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served as Provost Marshall in post-war Germany. Ellard married the former Edna Kemmish Reeves on November 10, 1946. That same year, he and John E. Frankum formed the law firm Frankum and Ellard, which later became Adams, Ellard & Frankum, P.C. He served as Solicitor for the Court of Habersham County (1950-1957) and as Georgia State Senator for the 31st District (1957-1958). He was appointed Clerk of the Georgia House of Representatives in 1959 and served until retiring in 1991. In 1960 and 1964, Ellard served as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. He was a member and deacon of Cornelia First Baptist Church and held membership in the Kiwanis Club, Phi Delta Phi, Phi Kappa Phi, the Gridiron Society, the Mason s, and the Shriners. Ellard died on March 6, 2001 at the age of 88
