Donn M. Peevy earned a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice in 1974 from Georgia State University and a J.D. degree from the Atlanta Law School in 1980. He has practiced criminal, civil, domestic and appellate law in State, Superior and Federal Courts. He also served as head of the Gwinnett County Police Department Vice and Intelligence Division from 1969 to 1975 and served in the Georgia National Guard from 1969 to 1975.
Peevy's political career began when he worked as legislative assistant to U.S. Congressman Edgar Jenkins from 1976 to 1979 and as the Gwinnett County State Court Prosecutor in 1980. He was elected as a Georgia State Senator for the 48th District in 1982 and served until 1990. While in the Senate, he served on the Transportation Committee, Appropriations Committee, and as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary.
Peevy's papers document his Georgia senate career and include correspondence, campaign materials, newspaper clippings, photographs, and a scrapbook. Topics of note include a vote recount in 1986, crime bills, the Senate Special Judiciary Committee, and issues facing the elderly.
