James Render Terrell, Sr.:
Judge James Render Terrell, Sr. was born on August 10, 1868 to Dr. Joel Edward Green Terrell and Sara Rebecca Anthony in Greenville, Meriwether County, Georgia. He was the brother of Georgia Governor and Senator Joseph M. Terrell. Judge Terrell graduated from Mercer University in 1888 and was admitted to the state bar the following year, practicing law with his brother. He served in the State Senate from 1898 to 1899, when he served as President Pro Tempore, and again from 1929 to 1930. He was elected Solicitor General of the Coweta Judicial Circuit in 1904. He became a judge in 1917 and served until 1921, when he returned to law until retirement. Judge Terrell died in 1948.
James Render Terrell, Jr.:
The son of Judge James Render Terrell, Sr. and nephew of Joseph M. Terrell, James Render Terrell, Jr. was born in Greenville, Georgia on July 4, 1899. He attended law school at Columbia University and was admitted to the state bar in 1922. He served in the State Senate from 1932 to 1934, and in the House of Representatives for Troup County from 1934 to 1936. He was Troup County Attorney from 1934 until his death in 1956.
Joel Hood Terrell:
The son of Judge James Render Terrell, Sr. and nephew of Joseph M. Terrell, Joel Hood Terrell was born in Greenville, Georgia on September 23, 1902. He graduated valedictorian from Mercer University in 1923, and was admitted to the state bar in 1926 after three years as a schoolteacher. He was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives for Warren County from 1935 to 1936, and was elected to the State Senate for two terms, 1937-1938 and 1943-1944, serving as President Pro Tempore. He died in 1957.
