Robert M. Willingham, a well-known author and historian for Wilkes County, Georgia, compiled and donated this collection of materials on the Democratic Party of Georgia, 1974 to 1976. Willingham was elected as a delegate to the Democratic Party's State Charter Convention (1975) and was very involved in Georgia's Democratic campaigns and elections between 1974 and 1976. This collection represents Robert Willingham's personal files from this period. Individual files contain letters from Doug Barnard (Democrat from Augusta, U.S. Representative 1977-1993), Tom Harrold (candidate for U.S. Representative for Georgia's 10 th District), Irving Kaler (chairman of the State Ethics Commission of Georgia), C. C. Moreland (candidate for U.S. Representative for Georgia's 10 th District), and a gift card from Marge Thurman (Chairman of the Democratic Party of Georgia). There are typescripts, correspondence, and ephemera relating to Georgia's State Charter Convention for the Democratic Party, County District Committee, the National Democratic Convention (Delegate Selection), State Committee, and News Releases relating to the Democratic Party of Georgia from 1974 to 1976.
The collection consists of typescripts, correspondence, and ephemera collected by Robert M. Willingham relating to the activities of the Democratic Party in Georgia from 1974 to 1976. The bulk of the materials pertain to the party's charter convention and 10th District party activities. Also included are materials on the delegate selection procedure for the 1976 Democratic National Convention.
