Abstract: The Hollis Family Collection is comprised of three artifacts including one quilt, one cast iron stove, and one cast iron wash pot used by members of the Hollis family from the 1930s to the 1940s. The collection was donated by Carole and Gerald Hollis whose family's lived in Douglas County, Georgia during the 1930s and 1940s. The quilt, made partially from feed sacks in the 1930s, was donated to the Russell Library as part of the Rural Electrification Act Exhibit. |
Members of the Hollis family were residents of Douglas County, Georgia in the 1930s and 1940s. Carole Hollis's paternal grandparents owned a grocery store near Fort Mcpherson, Georgia and her father was a member of the Merchant Marines before buying a home and starting a poultry farm in Douglas County.
This collection includes household items owned by members of Carole and Gerald Hollis's families. Items in this collection include one utilitarian quilt made from feed sacks (81" x 68"), one Dixie Bell cast iron stove stamped with "Southern Co-operative, Foundry Rome, Georgia" measuring (30" x 36" x 2' H), and one cast iron wash pot.
