Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteThe University of Cambridge Amateur Dramatic Club was established in 1855 by F. C. Burnand and was Britain's first permanent university theater group. Originally the Club produced farces, burlesques, and the efforts of Burnand himself. However, by the 1870's, the Club concentrated on comedy productions. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of a photographic album of the University of Cambridge Amateur Dramatic Club from 1874-1877. The album contains 185 photographs of 10 comic productions. Each photograph is labeled with the actor and character's name.
