Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteBeginning in 1832, Cherokee territory in present-day Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb, Floyd, Forsyth, Gilmer, Lumpkin, Murray, Paulding, and Union counties entered into the lottery system and was dispersed to thousands of Georgia families. McDonald, which represents the tract of land drawn by Henry Potts, Sr., of Riden District, Jackson County, in the Cherokee land lottery and which is situated in the Seventeenth District of the Third Section of Cherokee County.
