Fleming Jordan letters
Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteFleming Jordan (1838-1916), Confederate Captain with Company B of the 44th Georgia Infantry Regiment, married Nancy Dillon and resided in Jasper County, Georgia. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of papers of Fleming Jordan from 1842-1865. The majority of the collection consists of letters from Jordan to his wife while he served in the 44th Georgia Infantry Regiment. Letters are written from Goldsboro, North Carolina, Richmond, Virginia, and Atlanta, Georgia; and discuss Jordan's health and troop activities. The collection also contains a letter to Jordan from his uncle, Joshua Hill, U.S. House of Representatives; from Colonel Robert A. Smith, commander of the 44th Regiment; and a letter to Nancy Jordan from J. J. DuBarry, informing Nancy of the death of her brother, Henry Dillon, in battle.
