Isaac S. Vincent papers
Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteIsaac S. Vincent was Captain in the 1st Regiment of Georgia Volunteers stationed at Cedar Town, Georgia. He helped oversee the removal of the Cherokees in 1838; he was employed "in removing the Cherokee Indians, and protecting the people of the States against Indian hostilities." He was Clarke County's first casualty of the Civil War and was killed in action. He is buried locally at the Oconee Hill Cemetery. Scope and ContentThe collection consists of papers of Captain Isaac S. Vincent from 1837-1839. Papers include correspondence, military orders, provision returns, and a muster roll (May 14, 1838) relating to Vincent's command of the 1st Regiment of Georgia Volunteers while stationed at Cedar Town, Georgia during the removal of the Cherokee Indians from Georgia.
