Collection DescriptionHistorical NoteOf special note is a photograph of the 1897 University of Georgia vs. University of Virginia football game in Brisbine Park in Atlanta on October 30, 1897. During this game, Richard Vonalbade 'Von' Gammon, a University of Georgia football player, was killed. 'Von' Gammon remains the only University of Georgia athlete to be killed during or as a direct result of injuries sustained in competition.
