Historical Note

Marcus Wellons (1955-2014), was a U.S. Army veteran who was incarcerated in 1989, and spent 21 years on Death Row. He was executed on June 17, 2014.

Scope and Content

This collection contains Marcus Wellons' correspondence to and from his family members, Margaret Johnson and her daughter Mary Catherine Johnson, as well as others. Included are his writing, the newsletter Compassion, written by Death Row inmates, the journal he wrote during the week before his execution, and a memoir about Troy Davis, another Death Row inmate.
